Introduction to NLC Collections

As the repository of the nation's publications, NLC has a comprehensive collection of all domestic formal publications and partial collection of foreign periodicals. 13,089,796 volumes of Chinese and foreign language periodicals were collected by the end of 2009. As of the end of 2009, the NLC had collected 6,482,532 volumes (51,463 titles) of Chinese periodicals. You can look up into the OPAC to see if a certain periodical is in NLC's collection and its detailed information, including its call number, location in the Library, information of a special copy, etc.

Overview of Journals in Foreign Languages (Library Collections)

	• China Academic Journals Full-text Database (CNKI)（since 1979） It is selective collection of over 8200 key professional journals in science & technology and humanities since 1979. Certain materials have been collected since its first issue.
	• VIP Chinese Science and Technology Periodicals Database It collects over 12,000 titles of Chinese science & technology periodicals since 1989, including journals in the disciplines of social science, natural science, industrial technology, agricultural science, medical science and pharmacy.
	• The Database of the Replicated Journals by Renmin University of China It collects full-text documents in the areas of Marxism-Leninism, political science, culture, history, philosophy, law, education, literature, geography and social sciences.
	• Science China The abstracts of periodicals include over 2000 titles of key journals in science & technology in Chinese and English from 1985 to present; Chinese Science Citation Database collects over 600 titles of key journals since 1989; Chinese Science Document Database established in the middle of 1980s contains approximately one million pieces of data.
	• Longyuan Periodicals It collects over 1,690 titles of typical and popular full-text journals in humanities from 1997 till now, which are published along with the print publications.
	• The Database of National Index to Chinese Newspaper & Periodicals (1857-) It collects s over 6000 titles of journals in social sciences and over 200 titles of newspapers in the country from 1857 till now. About 200,000 pieces of data are yearly updated.
	• Wanfang Digital Periodicals (1998-) It collects 5043 titles of periodicals, including over 1330 titles of key journals from 1998 till now.
	• CMA Digital Periodicals It collects 115 titles of periodicals sponsored by Chinese Medical Association (CMA). It is a medical periodical database with the largest number, the most important effects and the most powerful authority in the medicine and public health community home and abroad.
	• Genius Finance It collects financial and economic news from over 70 titles of major economics and finance newspapers, periodicals or magazines from 1991 till now. It also classifies news into different categories such as stocks, mutual funds, bonds and more. Over 2300 pieces of news are updated daily. Besides financial news, the system also includes bulletins and announcements of listed companies, mutual funds and bonds as well as securities legislation, regulations and more.
	• TEPS Taiwan Electronic Periodical Services TEPS is an online database that provides the most full-text Taiwan periodicals in the world. Currently it has collected over 900 titles of Taiwan periodicals in different disciplines, including humanities, social sciences, natural science, applied sciences, medical science and life science. More materials are constantly being added to the database.
	• Key Periodicals Overview (user name: gjts password: tgbkb) It includes A Guide to the Core Journal of China (2004 edition), A Guide to the Core Journals of Humanities & Social Sciences in Foreign Countries, and A Guide to the Core Journals of Sciences & Technologies in Foreign Countries.

	• Foreign Languages Publications Database (Wanfang) Foreign Languages Periodicals (1995-) It collects 12,634 titles of academic periodicals, and yearly updates about one million papers.
	• ACS Journals (Web Edition) It collects all of the journals published by ACS since 1996.
	• ARL Academic Research Library It collects 3,737 titles of journals, among of which are 2,536 titles of full-text journals.
	• Business and Company Resource Center Readers can retrieve detailed information of 450,000 companies and 8,000 different industry organizations from over 2800 full-text business journals and over 100 newspapers.
	• CSHL Online Journals It collects 5 titles of journals published by Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Press.

Reading Rooms Overview

Chinese Periodicals

Location:South side, 4th floor, NLC North Area.
Collections: 11,000 titles of Chinese periodicals published in the previous 2 years (including current year), including 6,000 titles for open-stack reading and 5,000 titles for close-stack reading.
Opening Hours: Monday to Friday 9:00-21:00 (For reservation of close-stack reading documents: 9:00-16:00)
Saturday to Sunday 9:00-17:00 (For reservation of close-stack reading documents: 9:00-16:00)

Foreign Publications Reading Room

Location: 3rd floor, NLC North Area.
Collections: Western languages books catalogued in the previous one year (including part of the western languages books collected in former Law Reference Services Room and Chinese Studies Centre of National Library of China), amounting to 12,000 volumes; western languages books published after 1975 (including 1975) for close-stack reading; periodicals in western languages, Japanese, and Russian published in the previous 1-2 years (including western languages periodicals in former Law Reference Services Room and Chinese Studies Centre of National Library of China), amounting to 5,700 titles; 34 computers for digital resources services; 2 computers for reading disks.

Saturday to Sunday 9:00-17:00 (For online reservation of close-stack reading documents: 0:00-16:00,western languages books for close-stack reading are not available on Saturday)

Taiwan, Hong Kong & Macau Collections Reading Room

Location: Middle part of north side, 4th floor, NLC North Area.
Collections: Chinese books and newspapers, and periodicals in the previous 3 years published in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau and overseas countries.
Opening Hours: Monday to Friday 9:00-21:00 (For online reservation of documents: 0:00-16:00)
Saturday to Sunday 9:00-17:00 (For online reservation of documents: 0:00-16:00)
