Sun Yigang, NLC deputy director, heads a delegation for the 83rd IFLA General Conference and Assembly


From 16 August to 22 August, on the invitation of International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), a 4-person delegation of the National Library of China (NLC), led by Sun Yigang, NLC deputy director, attended the 83rd IFLA General Conference and Assembly in Wroclaw, Poland, and satellite meeting.

 
The theme was "Libraries. Solidarity. Society.". Attendees from 140 countries attended more than 240 sessions in the conference. Before the conference, Chinese Speaking Participants Caucus Meeting was held for Chinese people from all over the world, which introduced the IFLA's latest development and the different section sessions of the 83rd IFLA General Conference and Assembly.

 
During the conference, Sun Yigang attended meeting of IFLA Asia and Oceania Section Standing Committee, the Conference on the Use of IFLA Standards in the Linked Data Environment, the Conference for Directors of National Libraries, and so on, and held talks with directors attending the meetings on the hot issues of library community. The NLC also held several bilateral talks and multilateral talks, such as discussing strategic depository and other issues with Macnaught, director of the National Library of New Zealand, holding talks with Zhang Shali, director of University of Montana Library, Eric Rubik, OCLC representative, on the development of China-North America Library Conference. The delegation attended exchange conference of China-Japan-Korea Digital Library Initiative, met with Elaine Ng, chief executive officer of the National Library Board, Singapore (NLB), and Tay Ai Cheng, vice chief executive officer of the NLB.


Before the conference, the delegation attended an IFLA Satellite Meeting sponsored by IFLA Genealogy and Local History Section and IFLA Asia and Oceania Section in Vilnius, Lithuania from 16 August to 18 August, and discussed genealogy and local chronicles digitalization, oral history and other topics with the attendees. The delegation also visited the National Library of Lithuania (NLL), held a talk with the NLL director and signed cooperation agreement.
