By 2009, the Library has collected more than 40,000 discs of various audio resources, including 36,646 CDs, 967 microgroove records and 2,405 MP3s.
The resources are mainly in Chinese, English and Japanese. One distinctive feature of the resources is the collection of classical music pieces and classical songs from different countries in the world. There is also a large collection of foreign language teaching tapes and CDs. We welcome all music lovers to come to use these resources. |

The Special Collections Donated by Mr. Eihachirou Shidori
There is a special component in NLC's audio resources, that is the 20,000 western classical music CDs donated by Mr. Eihachirou Shidori.
Mr. Eihachirou Shidori (1926-2001) dedicated his whole life to his career in classical music review and education, and enjoyed a good reputation in the world. He gave lectures many times in China, which were very well received by the audience.
Mr. Eihachirou Shidori was a member of the Japanese International Music Critique Association, the Japanese Musicians Association and the Japanese Tourism Pen. He was the honorary president of the Social Conservatory of China National Symphony Orchestra, honorary council member of the Beijing Orchestra Fans Society, jury of the Montreal International Phonographic Award, jury of the International Phonographic Academy Award, music review writer for the Japanese newspaper Asashi Shimbun and the Daily Magazine. He is the author of The Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter in Music, Stories of the Great Western Music Works, Women and the Great Composers, The Great Composers and Music CDs, The Journey of Winter, All about Mozart, People, Music, CD and many more publications. Mr. Eihachirou Shidori has been a good friend of the Chinese people. He donated 20,000 CDs from the tens of thousands of albums he has collected to National Library of China in 1995. His wish was to give the special collection of best music CDs to the classical music lovers in China, and to share with them the sacred spiritual resource.
