ISSN（International Standard Serial Number）

ISSN (International Standard Serial Number) is the abbreviation of the initial English letters of the international standard serial numbers.

ISSN is a standard, concise and exclusive identification code established for controlling, exchanging and searching the continuing resources (including newspapers, periodicals, dynamic guidelines, yearbooks, annual reports, etc.) of various media among different countries, languages and institutions (organizations). Up to May 2008, ISSN network has identified 1,372,000 titles of serial publications (including those that are being published and those that have ceased to publish) in the world, forming the largest serial publication catalogue database in the world, and ISSN also becomes an authoritative system in the world.

Introduction to ISSN China Center

In 1985, Chinese government formally approved the foundation of ISSN China Center. ISSN China Center, located in the National Library of China, is responsible for the assignment, management, utilization and consultation of the serial publication ISSN formally approved to publish by the General Administration of Press and Publication of the People's Republic of China, and it is also responsible for submitting Chinese serial publication catalogue data to ISSN International Center Database, etc. Up to the end of 2007, approximately 13,600 titles of serial publications had been granted the ISSN in China.
