DOAJ: DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journal) is an open access journal compiled by Lund University Libraries in Sweden. It was established in May 2003 and its content covers academic and research journals. In the beginning, the Libraries only owned 350 titles of journals. Until the end of April 2006, it has owned 2209 titles of open access journals in which 604 titles provide full-text articles.
HighWire Press: Stanford University Libraries' HighWire Press began in early 1995 with the online production of the weekly Journal of Biological Chemistry (JBC), the most highly cited (and second largest) peer-reviewed journal. At present, it owns about 710 titles of electronic journals with more than 23,000,00 articles. More than 770,000 articles are full-text articles and the collections are still growing. With access to the interface, 12,000,000 articles in 4500 titles of journals in Medline's collections can be accessed. Abstracts can also be viewed.
PMC: PubMed Central is a digital archive of life sciences journal literature at the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH), developed and managed by NIH's NationalCenter for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) in the National Library of Medicine (NLM). Currently it has collected around 245 titles (May 2006) in which mostly are free full-text articles. Some of the journals can be freely accessed after they have been published from six to thirty six months.
BMC: BioMed Central is an independent publishing house committed to providing immediate open access to peer-reviewed biomedical research. Journals published by BMC are titles of medical BMC-series. Their subject scope includes the main areas of Biology and Medical Science. All original research articles published by BioMed Central are made freely and permanently accessible online immediately upon publication.
arXiv:Theses collected by the database can be reviewed by scholars anytime while the author of the thesis can respond to reviews. Authors of theses can hand in theses to academic journal for publication when they hand in theses to e-print arXiv. Once a thesis is published in any of the academic journals, related information will be added to the record of the thesis in e-print zrXiv.
PloS: It provides free browsing of various self-published academic journals with strict peer-review and high quality of editing level.
SciELO: Scientific Electronic Library Online is a Brazilian technology journal. It is a cooperative mode of electronic publication in technology journal on the Internet. Its publications cover topics on agriculture, botany, zoology, medicine, etc.
J-STAGE: J-STAGE is developed by Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) and it includes all publications of every Japanese science and technology society (mainly in English). It includes 255 titles of electronic journals, many meeting proceedings and research reports. Articles collected are mainly academic research papers which involve every aspect in science and technology area. The system was launched in October 1999. All abstracts and indexes are freely accessed. 199 titles of journals can be viewed full-text free of charge while most meeting proceedings and research reports can be viewed full-text freely.
