National Library of China is a national repository of publications. Its collection consists of the Chinese and Western monographs, periodicals, newspapers, audiovisual materials, and electronic publications. The success of the huge and valuable collection relies on the support from public. For better understanding the work on materials donations, the following is the method of donating materials to library (Trial):

1. Scope of collection
The Library welcomes and solicits gifts of rare books, maps, epigraphs and rubbings, manuscripts, and historical documents of Chinese and foreign languages. For the gifts that are not included in the collection or less duplicate copies are in the collection. Library is pleased to include the gifts in the Library collection.

2. Method of collecting gifts
i. For the gifts that are fulfilled the selection criteria and not included in the Library collection, would be treated as official collection and preserved permanently.
ii. For the gifts that are fulfilled the selection criteria and the material is already included in the Library collection. If the Library does not have enough copies in the collection, the gifts would be treated as official collection or temporary collection in the Library. It is determined by the library regulations. The temporary collection would be placed in the close stack after the borrowing period is expired.
iii. For the gifts that are excluded of the collection scope or have enough copies in Library collection. Library will send back the gifts to the donor. If donor is not willing to receive the donated materials or the library cannot contact the donor, library reserves the right to determine their disposition in the appropriate manner.

3. Reserved right
The gifts are accepted with the understanding that, once received, they are owned by the National Library of China. The Library reserves the right to determine their disposition in the appropriate manner.

4. Acknowledgment
i. A Certificate of Honors would be awarded to the donor, when the gifts are accepted by the Library for permanent storage or temporary borrowing.

ii. A Thank you letter would be posted to the donor, once the library does not accept the gifts after selection and donor is not willing to receive the gifts.

iii. For the gifts are not accepted by the library and donor would like to get back the gifts. Donor must be come to library in person or authorize others to get back the gifts within 60 days (Start from the postmark date) after received the "Thank you letter"(Please bring along with the "Thank you letter"). If Library does not receive any reply or the reclaiming period is expired, Library reserves the right to determine the disposition of the gifts.
