The NLC Rare Books Restoration Center is a specialized agency repairing Rare Books and special collections. Its predecessor was Book Repair Group which once attached to Operation and Coordination and Director Office . It was under Rare Books Department since 1980. In 2001, it was renamed Rare Books Restoration Team which is now the NLC Rare Books Restoration Center .

According to historical records, we've already had professional Rare Books Restoration staff after the establishment of the National Library of China. From 1909 to 1949, book restoration staff remained 1 to 4 people. Personnel generally maintained at 8 people during 1949 to 1980, at the most nearly 40 people (including press binding). There are around 10 restoration staff in the department since 1980. Up till now there are 15 staff including 2 senior deputy titles and 7 intermediate titles.

The Restoration Center has been expanded in terms of area and facilities. The workplace occupies 350 meters. This restoration center can handle those large Rare Books. Besides, it also acts as a training center in this field.
