The NLC delivers books to the corp, thriving culture and promoting national unity

From 23 September to 27 September, a 12-person delegation of the National Library of China (NLC), led by deputy director Chang Pijun, went to Hami, where the NO.13 Agriculture Division of Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps were stationed, and donated 30,000 books to the Library of NO.13 Agriculture Division, which was being built. The delegates thoroughly acquainted the economic, society and culture of the NO.13 Agriculture Division, especially the resources development of the library.

During the 5-day visit, the delegation attended the book donation ceremony, went to the farmland to experience the hard work of the local people, visited the West-Route Army Memorial Garden and Yiwu Martyr Cemetery, and investigated the cultural relics protection institutions, libraries and museums in Hami.

This practical activity was co-organized by the NLC Youth League Committee and the Propaganda Department of NO.13 Agriculture Division, which strengthened the exchange and cooperation between the NLC and Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Regions, and promoted national unity. Through the practical activity, the delegates witnessed the great changes in Xinjiang since the founding of the P.R.C., especially since reform and opening-up, and witnessed the significant achievements of Xinjiang in economic, society and culture since implementing the development campaign of the western regions.

Based on the book donation, the NLC planned to help Liushuquan Farm build a library in 2010 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liushuquan Farm, so as to improve the cultural infrastructure, thrive the frontier culture and improve the cultural life of the people of all nationalities in Xinjiang.
