The NLC special collections consist of library science materials, Dunhuang-Turpan materials, arts, publications of Chinese Minorities, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and Japan, and publications of international organizations and foreign governments.

National Library of China is the first organization to preserve the publications of UN in China. It has collected the publications of UN since 1947, and catalogued the publications since 1962. At present, it is the biggest repository of collecting the publications of UN in China.
National Library of China has collected more than 500,000 items of the publications of UN, other international organizations and foreign governments, including books, periodicals, microforms, CD-ROMs etc.
